AI Visibility Quick-Check (7 Steps, 10 Minutes)
Run through these 7 checks on your business website. Each one fixes a specific blind spot that keeps ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity from recommending you.
Step 1. Organization schema (the single biggest miss)
Open your homepage source and search for application/ld+json. You should see a block with "@type": "Organization" or "LocalBusiness". If not, you are invisible to AI crawlers as a brand.
Fix: Add this to the <head> of your homepage (replace the values):

Step 2. FAQ schema on your most-visited page
FAQ schema is the single biggest source of AI snippet capture. Pick your homepage or your most-trafficked service page. Add 3-5 questions a customer would ask, with concise answers, marked up with FAQPage schema.
How to verify: Paste your URL into search.google.com/test/rich-results. If FAQPage shows up green, you are done.
Step 3. llms.txt at your domain root
This is the new robots.txt for AI crawlers. OpenAI, Anthropic, and Perplexity respect it. It tells AI which pages to read first.
Fix: Create a file llms.txt at yourbusiness.com/llms.txt containing:

Step 4. The ChatGPT live recommendation test
Open ChatGPT (free tier is fine). Paste this prompt, replacing the brackets:
Recommend the 5 best [your service type] in [your city] for [your ideal customer's need]. Include website links.
Are you in the list? If yes, you are doing better than 95 percent of small businesses. If no (most likely), the next 3 steps fix that.
Step 5. H1, meta description, word count

H1: Open each main page. Search for
<h1>. There should be exactly ONE per page, containing your primary keyword. -
Meta description: 120-160 characters, includes a primary keyword and your offer. Check via View Source for
<meta name="description">. - Word count: Pages under 800 words rarely get cited by AI. Add depth to your top 3 pages.
Step 6. Get mentioned somewhere AI trusts
AI assistants weight third-party mentions 3x higher than self-claimed pages. Free wins:
- Claim your Google Business Profile (still the single biggest signal)
- Get listed on 2-3 niche directories for your industry (no Google login required - search "[your niche] directory submit free")
- Submit one quote to featured.com when their daily journalist queries match your expertise
Step 7. Author bylines and About page
AI uses E-E-A-T signals. Make sure every blog post has an author byline with a real person, your About page lists who is actually behind the business, and there is at least one photo of you or your team.
